Sunderland Software City
Sunderland Software City (SSC) is a major regional project to create a sustainable and globally competitive software industry in the North East of England. It will be one of a set of Innovation Connectors that form a key element in One NorthEast’s Regional Economic Strategy and will enable the development of world class facilities, initiate new approaches to integrating business and universities and act as a stimulus and catalyst for growth of existing businesses.
By creating an environment where a software industry can thrive it will also attract inward investment from National and International software businesses that seek a suitable European location.
In addition it will engage with the community through an extensive education programme that will span schools, FE and HE and will encourage young people to see the software industry as an attractive career that will be rewarding both financially and intellectually and which will allow them to build their future in the North East region.
It will have Sunderland as its geographical focus but will have an economic and regenerative impact that will be felt throughout the whole region. As a private sector initiated, public-private partnership SSC is driven by a powerful grouping of the City of Sunderland, the University of Sunderland, The North East Business and Innovation Centre, One NorthEast, Codeworks Connect and the private sector software industry led by the Leighton Group.
